چکیده

While hollow microspheres and various porous structures have received much attention for solar reflection in the recent literature, their fundamental determinants of optical properties material selection criteria are relatively little known. Here, we study with varying refractive index extinction coefficient identify role determining reflectivity. Our simulations based on finite-difference time-domain method show effects between 1.5 100 10?6–100 wavelength region 0.2–2.4 ?m explain how reflectivity is attributed to a combination strong backscattering limited absorption. analysis indicates that ceramic materials high low such as Y2O3 promising. When randomly distributed diameter ranging from 0.5 1 ?m, our simulation shows reaches 0.97 even at 300 thickness, diffusion theory-based model predicts exceed 0.98 500 or 0.99 mm thickness. findings can guide optimal designs related toward complete enable breakthroughs thermal management deep-space applications.

Temperature Coefficient of the Refractive Index of H

The temperature coefficient of the refractive index, (dn/dT)p, has been measured for deuterium oxide. The observed values are considered together with those previously obtained for water. The experimental data cannot be explained with the best known models of molecular polarizability, at least in the approximation generally used in these models. Therfore they are discussed on the basis of a dif...

Reflection from a Flat Dielectric Film with Negative Refractive Index

We analyse the reflection of a TM electromagnetic field first on a flat dielectric film and second on a Veselago film with negative refractive index, both films being deposited on a metallic substrat acting as a mirror. An incident harmonic plane wave generates inside a conventional dielectric film a refracted propagating wave and an evanescent wave that does not contribute to reflection on the...

Spectral Optical Readout of Rectangular–Miniature Hollow Glass Tubing for Refractive Index Sensing

For answering the growing demand of innovative micro-fluidic devices able to measure the refractive index of samples in extremely low volumes, this paper presents an overview of the performances of a micro-opto-fluidic sensing platform that employs rectangular, miniature hollow glass tubings. The operating principle is described by showing the analytical model of the tubing, obtained as superpo...

Determining the size and refractive index of microspheres using the mode assignments from Mie resonances.

A new method for determining the radius and refractive index of microspheres using Mie resonances is presented. Previous methods have relied on searching multidimensional space to find the radius and refractive index that minimize the difference between observed and calculated Mie resonances. For anything but simple refractive index functions, this process can be very time consuming. Here, we d...

Leaf Area, Leaf Area Index and Light Extinction Coefficient for Taro Culture

Taro, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott, is the most important species from the Araceae family. The leaf area (LA) is important for the interception of solar radiation and for the biomass production. The light extinction coefficient (k) is related to the leaf inclination angle, leaf arrangement, regarding the Leaf Area Index (LAI), providing an indication of the plants efficiency on intercepting ...
